Try scraping a quarter across a Hayden fly reel by TFO and you can’t scratch it. That’s the first signal this might be the most durable fly reel on the market today and built to battle the strongest fish in the ocean.
These reels are machined from marine-grade aluminum and are type 3 hard anodized by super high speed buffing so they will look and perform to perfection for generations.
Three stainless steel bearings and a large surface area cork drag are combined for smooth start up and positive stopping power. These are exceptional reels and will last a few lifetimes.
Famed Australian reel designer Terry Hayden has teamed up with TFO to create a new reel that is designed to battle the strongest fish in the ocean.
Built for a lifetime of service, TFO's Hayden reels are tough. Machined from 6061 marine grade aluminum and Type III Hard Anodized. Hard Anodization penetrates the base metal becoming an integral part of the material while building up on the surface creating a finish that is harder and more durable than those found on the most expensive reels.
Three stainless steel bearings and a large surface area cork drag are combined for smooth start up and positive stopping power.
If you cast with your right hand and retrieve with your left hand then you want Left Hand Retrieve.
If you cast with your left hand and retrieve with your right hand then you want Right Hand Retrieve.
Note: Some prefer to use the same hand for casting and retrieving by setting the hook before switching the rod to the opposite hand. This is perfectly acceptable. The important thing is that you retrieve with the hand with which you are most comfortable (fastest retrieve).
Backing Material Information
For a small fee we will put 20# test Dacron backing material by 3M-Scientific Anglers on to your reel.
Optionally you may select 30# test Dacron by 3M or Rod Harrison's Bionic Braid (details below) for an additional fee.
Be sure to select your retrieve (see above).
Standard Backing is built with advanced 3M technology that allows 3M to create small diameter backing without losing the inherent strength of the backing material.
Features:
Exceptionally thin material for more reel capacity
Low coefficient of friction minimizes wear on guides
High abrasion resistance
Colorfast
Extremely high visibility
Bionic Braid by Rod Harrison
Background
Bionic Braid is the brain child of Rod Harrison, an identity Lefty Kreh calls one of Australia's national treasures. Rod has battled black, striped and blue marlin on the high seas, tarpon and bonefish on the flats, and is equally at home on gun-shy trout in a spring creek.
When spectra/dyneema fibres became available to line makers Rod approached Don McPherson, a lifelong friend and president of the Australian Monofil Company, with the specification for a superior and user-friendly braided backing.
Made from Type 71 super dyneema fibers - the filament industry's finest denier - 50 pound Bionic Braid has become the backing of choice amongst growing numbers of flyrodders. Dean Butler - "if there was anything better, I'd be using it".
Tech/Specs
Compelling Bionic Braid advantages are a near doubling of reel capacities. Over and above standard backing loads of 30 pound dacron/micron, the same reel will take at least 1.8 times as much 50 pound Bionic Braid. This deregulation allows an enormous increase in scope. Bonefish reels theoretically become billfish capable. Flow on advantages include a substantial decrease in water pressure brought about by the comparative thinness of Bionic Braid - and stemming from that, no significant reduction in the reel's recovery rate following a big run.
Super tight weave
Machine braided with a super tight weave, Bionic Braid has a rounded shape - which it retains. And an ideal degree of limpness that lays between that of billowy first generation spectra lines and the wiry crop of thermo fused uni-filament spectra/dyneema lines. Those qualities translate into a braid that handles better and lays more comfortably on a spool. An additional bonus lays in the 7% elasticity the Bionic Braid weave provides. This modicum of stretch, absent in competitor product, provides comparatively higher percentage knot strengths and helps take the load off other knots in the system.
Slick Hi-Viz Finish
Bionic Braid has a unique slick and durable Teflon based finish that outlasts the coatings of other spectra/dyneema lines. This treatment negates concerns (which have been somewhat overrated) about gelspun lines cutting rod runners and careless hands. Bionic Braid is optically enhanced - it's trademark fluorescent pink colour provides exceptional situation awareness under a wide range of weather and water conditions. Visibility-wise Bionic braid provides the best of both worlds. We see it, fish do not. Scientific research has established that bright pink is not on the vision register of offshore gamefish and many commonly caught inshore/freshwater fish.
Features:
Made in Australia, from Type 75 Dyneema fibres - currently the industry's finest denier - Bionic Braid is stronger than any fused Spectra/Dyneema lines of comparable diameter
Thinner yet stronger than dacron - nearly doubling reel capacities
Retains its rounded shape on the spool
Ideal degree of limpness
7% elasticity - means more striking fish solidly hooked, lesshooked fish lost and comparatively higher percentage knot strengths
Better lure actions - Flow-on advantages include crisper lure actions, deeper running depths, and positive hook setting
Teflon based finish outlasts the heat treatment 'coating' of other fused Spectra/Dyneema lines
Optically enhanced - fluorescent pink colour provides exceptional situation awareness under a wide range of weather and water conditions

Bruce Chard Professional Floating Fly Line by Jim Teeny
Captain Bruce Chard, a full time Florida Keys flats guide, FFF casting instructor and fishing photographer has designed a series of fly lines that best handles the conditions needed to cast, present, and fish a heavily weighted fly hard into the wind.
Bruce's tournament winning lines were the reason for the development of Teeny's HPC coating.
The most prestigious fish deserves the most prestigious line. You need a long cast and a delicate, accurate presentation when you have calm conditions versus shorter casts with a powerful tight loop that will drive a longer leader with a heavy fly hard into the wind. The hard "HPC" (high performance coating) coating and stiff mono core will help in creating tight loops and turning over long leaders, while minimizing line tangles.
These lines are excellent for fish ranging from permit, tarpon, bonefish, redfish, shark, barracuda and anything else that requires an accurate presentation with a large fly.
Available in a 12wt (WF-12-F) on this reel.

T Series 24ft Sink Tip Fly Line by Jim Teeny
Jim Teeny's original plan was to develop a one piece fly line with a sinking deep water express shooting head mated with a floating running line that would be easy to cast and very strong. That it would be perfectly balanced and color coded so one could easily see when they could roll cast or pick the line up off the water at the optimum time for the easiest and best results. Because he lives on the west coast, the lines were originally designed for fly fishing for salmon and steelhead on our west coast rivers and streams.
Shortly after their introduction, it was apparent that many other fly anglers had their own ideas about other uses for the lines. In the salt for stripers, blue fish, halibut, bill fish, Tarpon and many others, all fell prey to the T - Series lines. Realistically, what the T - Series & Saltwater Series fly lines have done is open up new fisheries both fresh and saltwater. There is hardly a fish that we cannot go after and quite possibly land with a certain amount of luck.

The TS Series represents a longer version of the original Teeny T Series fly lines. The sinking section is 30 feet long with a 70 foot running line section, totaling 100 feet. The title of the line is Saltwater Series, but it works equally well in freshwater when distance is important.
Teeny Designed this line for anglers who prefer to cast long distances of up to 100 feet. Many have found this line to be very useful on the big wide rivers on the west coast where casting distance is important. If you wish to fish close in, say 20 to 30 feet, you can easily do this. Simply roll cast some of the sinking line. Short leaders seem to work best with these lines. Jim usually runs about 4 feet of leader off the fly line when fishing for Steelhead or Salmon. The best way to cast this type of line is to get the color change to your rod tip and roll cast your line to the surface and then immediately make a single false cast and then shoot it where you want it to go. A great size for Billfish is the TS-550 which is perfect for quick casting and excellent balance to turn over large flies. This line works equally well in both fresh and salt water.

The New TS-T Flats Taper line has a 10 foot Clear Tip (slow sinking) along with 14 feet of regular intermediate sinking line. Total tip length is 24' of slow sinking head and 76 feet Floating. This line comes one piece from the factory for greater strength and smoothness when casting.
The big advantage this line will have is on fish that are swimming deeper and it's important that your fly be presented at the proper level. After experimenting with the clear tip or clear lines it's been proven time and time again that an all clear or long clear tip is a definite disadvantage for the angler and also for the guide. They are to hard to see and follow for accurate casts and presentation. Teeny designed a similar line back in the early 80's for Tarpon fishing at Homosassa Springs in Florida. Many seasons passed by as he longed for a line such as this for his arsenal.

Warm Water Series 30ft Sink Tip Fly Line by Jim Teeny
These lines have been developed to address warm water fishing with a fast sinking line. A braided mono core and our new "HPC" (high performance coating) coating allows this line to be fished in the warmest of conditions. This line is great for any tropical area where water temperatures can and do exceed 70 degrees.
Deep channels and underwater structures can be reached with this NEW Warm Water Series fly line. Teeny has color coded these lines the same as all of our T-Series type lines for easier handling and that added visual control. When you see the color change at the tip of your rod you then can roll cast it to the surface and single false cast shooting the line with confidence that you are at the perfect balance point. These one-piece perfectly balanced lines will cast and perform like our world famous original T-Series lines.

Leviathan® Fly Line - Tuna - Billfish - Bluewater Fly Line - NEW!
RIO’s Leviathan line for big game fish is built on a super strong Powerflex® core (in excess of 60 lbs breaking
strength) with a tough, tropical saltwater coating. Made to tackle a behemoth on a fly rod, it’s ideal for tuna,
trevally, billfish, dorado and other bluewater species. The heavy head loads up powerful bluewater rods while the
aggressive front taper makes casting ultra large streamers and poppers relatively simple. The fly line can be cut
from the back end to 60 ft to increase the backing capacity of reels and decrease the drag through the water.
Captain Gene Quigley on the Leviathan Lines
"...Fighting Tuna and Billfish on the fly is no easy task, make one mistake and you're out of the game. Offshore fly fishing requires fly lines to be constructed of strong mono cores, and fast tapers to deliver large flies to extremely fast pelagic game fish. The heavy head on the various Leviathan fly Lines loads twelve to sixteen weight fly rods and delivers large flies quickly and accurately to breaking tuna. Additionally, the 72 pound Powerflex core allows my clients to put everything into the fight while knowing the line won't fail.
Weather your casting surface poppers to Marlin and Dorado in tropical waters, or delivering flies to 100 Pound Bluefin Tuna on the Northeast, the Leviathan lines always get the job done."
